The Character Arc: Multi-Scene Study

Advanced/Professional

Santa Barbara - 10 Sunday nights
Beginning June 17

Offers the rare opportunity to work on character progression and development, the "thruline of action," throughout a play or screenplay. Explore and design the development of character and the nature of changing relationships. Actors work with classmates to create dynamic role interpretation, emphasizing the emotional score of the character's arc. Participants tackle the multi-scene development of a character, making decisions about character needs, motivations, physical and vocal life, tone, beats and units, rhythmic variety, etc. as their roles progress and transition throughout the script.

Partners will select scripts, characters and scenes before class begins so that we can hit the ground running. There will be a final "rehearsal showing" of all scenes to an invited audience during the final session of class.

N.B. All courses progress in a logical and consecutive sequence. Furthermore, students are frequently turned away once the maximum number of participants has been reached. For these reasons, students who begin the session agree to commit to the entire session and are, therefore, financially responsible for that session.
