Actor’s Experimental Lab SB

Advanced/Professional

Santa Barbara - 10 Sunday Nights
Beginning June 11

Summer should be a time to stretch, expand and investigate new worlds – the perfect season for experimentation. The nature of these experiments will be twofold: first working on stretches, challenges and choices that are out of your personal comfort zone. This content will be individually designed. Second, the introduction of experimental approaches from many sources will shake the dust off of your conception of process and performance.

Some examples? Exercises from the contemporary Moscow Art Theater, Grotowski’s “Signs” in training and performance, Chekhov’s body centers and Psychological Gesture, numerous outside-in formats, committing to offbeat choices, long-form improvisation, experiments in believing and the imagination, the creation of non-human forms, close-up and wide shot impact, et al.

At the end, you will possess a more adventurous capacity for exploration, a consistent fullness of commitment and a willingness to think and live outside of that tiresome box.

Limit 12 participants.
$390 total
(or three installments of $130).

All courses progress in a logical and consecutive sequence. Furthermore, students are frequently turned away once the maximum number of participants has been reached. For these reasons, students who begin the session agree to commit to the entire summer session and are, therefore, financially responsible for that session.
